Environment Canada issued heat warnings early Saturday morning covering central and southern Saskatchewan.
“We’re looking at temperatures, daytime temperatures especially, that are going to be a good ten degrees above normal for this time of year,” Meteorologist Eric Dykes said. “Normals for the Saskatoon area for daytime highs are around 24, it’s very similar for Regina at 25.”
The warmer than normal temperatures are expected to last into the start of the work week, according to the Environment Canada statement.
Temperatures are expected to get back to more seasonal values by the middle of the week.
Environment Canada says these conditions are particularly difficult for young children, pregnant people, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and those working outside.
“Just keep in mind those folks and if you can keep tabs with them and make sure that they’re ok during this little mini heatwave that we have going on for the next few days that would be great,” Dykes explained.
