Low-income families and seniors will be eligible for subsidized high-speed internet thanks to a federal initiative.
As part of the second phase of the federal government’s Connecting Families initiative, SaskTel announced Monday that high-speed internet at subsidized rates will be available to low-income seniors and families.
“As Saskatchewan’s homegrown communications provider, we’re pleased to continue to participate in the Connecting Families initiative to ensure low-income seniors and families across Saskatchewan have the opportunity to connect and participate in the digital world,” said SaskTel president and CEO Doug Burnett in a press release Monday.
The initiative, announced in 2018, aims to make internet services more affordable and accessible.
Don Morgan, the minister responsible for SaskTel, said the government supports SaskTel’s participation in Connecting Families 2.0.
“Our Government recognizes the important role Internet services play in the modern world,” he said.
SaskTel will offer those eligible for the initiative infiNET 60 internet for $20 per month where available.
