Jamie Nye: NFL relocation era is tough to watch

St. Louis has lost the Rams.

San Diego losing the Chargers.

Now, Oakland will be losing the Raiders.

The National Football League’s message to cities that house their teams is simple: You better build it or we’ll go.

These NFL teams all have one thing in common. They wanted new stadiums and the public to pay top dollar to keep their teams. Eventually, the cities started to come up with Hail Mary ideas but it was too little too late.

The NFL and the owners saw bigger money and opportunity elsewhere or more gullible politicians.

It’s sad. All three cities have great NFL fans but they also have politicians who didn’t want to put their city into deep debt just for football.

Can you fault them for that?

Hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars is a hard sell when many owners have more than enough revenue. Heck, the relocation fee for these teams is almost the price of a new stadium.

No city should have to make a decision like that with a gun held to their head.
