9:00 – A virtual town hall took place Thursday where parents had an opportunity to talk to Saskatchewan doctors about their back-to-school concerns. Infectious disease specialist Dr. Alex Wong was on the call hosted by Safe Schools Saskatchewan and joins Murray to discuss the concerns and questions that were brought forward.

9:30 – Steve Stanford is an Afghanistan veteran who lives in Gull Lake. On July 31 Stanford received a desperate plea from an interpreter he knew from when he was deployed in Afghanistan in 2008. Shareef Darwish asked Stanford to get his family to safety and escape the Taliban. Stanford joins Murray to share this incredible story of how he was able to get Darwish, his three children, wife and mother in law to Canada. And he says it was all done with no help from the Canadian government.

12:00 – Ari Avivi, a local stand-up comic, is running a contest to find new comedians and support mental health charities at the same time. Avivi is producing a series of open-mic shows at The Comedy Pit in Saskatoon, with the first show running Sept. 7 and all ticket and sponsorship money supporting local mental health charities. According to Avivi, the stand-up comedy scene took a hit during the pandemic and is now back on the upswing, and they want funny people to take the plunge and try their comedy chops on stage as they search for “Saskatoon’s funniest person with a day job.” Avivi joins Gormley to tell us more about the shows.
