A Regina high school teacher has been charged with sexual offences against a teenage girl.
In a media release late Friday afternoon, the Regina Police Service said 49-year-old Jeffrey G. Dumba had been charged with luring, sexual exploitation and making sexually explicit material available to a child.
According to the Criminal Code of Canada, a sexual exploitation charge can be filed against a person “who is in a position of trust or authority towards a young person.”
The police said Dumba was charged after an investigation into what was described as social media communication of a sexual nature with a female youth.
Police were told of the exchange on Thursday, collected statements and made arrangements to ensure the girl’s safety. Dumba was subsequently arrested and charged.
The police didn’t name the school at which Dumba was teaching at the time of the offences, but noted school administration is aware of the situation.
Dumba appeared before a justice of the peace and was released on an undertaking with a number of conditions. He’s to appear in court on Oct. 21.
