A 16-year-old Regina boy is facing more than half a dozen charges in what police are calling an “unpredictable” situation.
On Wednesday at around 12:30 a.m., a constable in the Canine Unit was driving northbound on Broad Street, nearing 15th Avenue, when he saw a vehicle coming from the opposite direction at what was described as an extremely high rate of speed.
The officer turned to follow the vehicle — a red Hyundai Elantra — and get the licence plate, which came up as stolen.
The suspect vehicle slowed, then turned west into a dead-end lane in the 2400 block of Broad Street near the Transitional neighbourhood.
In the moments that followed, police vehicles entered the lane, leaving room for the suspect vehicle to exit. As police tried to tell the suspect to stop and exit the vehicle, the driver supposedly began a series of erratic driving manoeuvres which resulted in an officer on foot nearly being hit before the vehicle struck a police cruiser.
Officers were able to immobilize the suspect vehicle and get the driver out of the car.
The teen is facing eight charges as a result of the incident.
