12:00 – Const. Shelby Patton, who worked out of the Indian Head RCMP detachment, was killed on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in Wolseley, Sask., after he was struck by a driver from Manitoba in a stolen truck. Two suspects, a man and a woman, fled the scene and were later arrested and charged with manslaughter, possession of a stolen vehicle, failing to stop at an accident, and possession of methamphetamine, among other charges. Melanie Patton, Shelby’s mother, works for the RCMP in an Alberta office and is calling on Premier Justin Trudeau to do more to implement preventative safety measures which she says could have saved her son’s life. Patton has sent a letter to his office but says she thinks a petition is the next step since Trudeau is not listening. She joins Gormley now to discuss what she thinks needs to change with Canada’s justice system.
