Winter-like weather made its presence felt throughout the province Thursday morning.
A Colorado low swept through the eastern prairies Thursday bringing “much-needed moisture” into southwestern Saskatchewan, according to Environment Canada.
Brad Vrolijk with the weather agency described Thursday’s system as an “introduction” to the months ahead.
“Most of the event is kind of done. It’s now in the winding-down phase and tapering off,” Vrolijk said early Thursday. “The snow that is falling is relatively light at this point so probably is just going to be more of a messy morning and then gradually improving through the afternoon.”
According to the weather agency, the heaviest rain and snow mixture was in the southeast closer to the Manitoba border.
The slushy conditions aren’t expected to stick around long, according to Vrolijk.
“We will have a nice push of warm air moving in from the west coast over the next couple of days. With that, we will probably see highs well back into the mid- to upper teens by the end of the week,” he said. “So this will be a shortlived period of sloppy cool weather.”
