For the first time in 51 days, Saskatchewan didn’t report a death due to COVID-19 on Monday.
In its daily COVID update, the Ministry of Health said there weren’t any COVID-related fatalities to announce. It’s the first time since Sept. 4 that the government didn’t report a death due to the virus.
There were 208 COVID-related deaths in the province in those 50 days. There have been 123 COVID fatalities in Saskatchewan in October.
The ministry also reported 170 new cases, the lowest total in a day since there were 158 cases on Aug. 26.
Hospitalizations in Saskatchewan rose by eight from Sunday’s report to 293, with 71 in intensive care. To date, nine ICU patients have been transferred from Saskatchewan to Ontario.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were reported in the Regina (35), Saskatoon (29), central-east (18), far northeast (15), northwest (13), north-central (11), northeast (eight), southeast (eight), southwest (four), central-west (three), south-central (two) and far northwest (one) zones.
The hometowns of 23 cases are still being determined.
The new cases included 126 people who weren’t vaccinated, with 44 of those under the age of 11. That age group currently isn’t eligible to be vaccinated.
There also were 37 cases among people who were considered fully vaccinated and seven among individuals who were partially vaccinated.
The new tests were detected on 1,681 tests, for a test positivity rate of 10.1. The seven-day average of new cases is 259.
There have been 76,481 cases in Saskatchewan to date, along with 72,842 recoveries. The active caseload fell to 2,822, its lowest mark since it was 2,755 on Sept. 3.
Of the 293 patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, 208 weren’t fully vaccinated.
There were 1,929 doses of COVID vaccine administered, with 1,345 of those second doses.
To date, 782,694 people have received two doses and are considered fully vaccinated. To date, 1,648,633 shots have been given in the province.
