The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan continued to trend downwards Saturday.
In its daily update, the Ministry of Health said the average had fallen by six from Friday’s update to 203, or 16.8 per 100,000 people. The average has dropped by more than 35 per cent since Oct. 22, when it was 312.
The ministry also said there were 189 new cases and 242 recoveries, dropping the active caseload to 2,307.
There also were four more deaths due to COVID reported. One fatality was reported in each of the Saskatoon, central-west, central-east and Regina regions.
The COVID-related death toll in Saskatchewan since the pandemic started stands at 850.
The number of COVID patients in the province’s hospitals also fell, dropping by 12 from Thursday’s update to 226. That included 173 people receiving inpatient care and 53 in intensive care.
A look at the numbers
The new cases were located in the Saskatoon (40), Regina (43), southeast (19), central-east (30), northwest (seven), north-central (23), far northeast (two), south-central (three), northeast (nine), far northwest (five), central-west (one) and southwest (four) zones.
The hometowns of three cases are still being identified.
To date, there have been 77,494 cases of COVID in Saskatchewan as well as 74,337 recoveries.
Of the 226 patients in Saskatchewan hospitals, 159 weren’t fully vaccinated.
As of Friday, 23 ICU patients had been transferred from Saskatchewan to Ontario.
The 4,320 doses of COVID vaccine administered in the province comprised 1,155 first doses and 3,165 second shots.
As of Friday, 1,664,475 doses had been given in Saskatchewan and 793,686 people had received two shots.
