Just three days after giving Pfizer’s booster the go-ahead, Health Canada has authorized the use of the Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine as a booster shot for everyone 18 and over.
The booster shots are to be given at least six months after an individual got their second shot.
Currently in Saskatchewan, everyone aged 65 and over is eligible to get a booster shot, as are those 50 and older in northern Saskatchewan and in First Nations communities. Health-care workers and people with significant health conditions also are eligible.
More information about eligibility for booster shots in Saskatchewan can be found here.
Moderna applied to Health Canada to approve its booster on Oct. 6. After what Health Canada called “a thorough, independent review of the evidence,” it approved the company’s booster.
