8:30 – Two subtypes of the COVID-19 Delta variant are now the dominant strains in Saskatchewan according to the SHA. Subtypes AY.25 and AY.27 originated in the United States, and now make up about two thirds of the transmissions in our province. Microbiologist Dr. Joseph Blondeau joins Gormley to explain what you need to know about these new strains, whether they could lead to a resurgence in COVID cases, and how viruses mutate into new variants.
LIVE: Dr. Joseph Blondeau, clinical microbiologist and head of clinical microbiology at RUH and U of S.
9:00 – Hour of the big stories
10:00 – SGI Minister Don Morgan introduced legislation last week that would lead to stiffer penalties for excessive speeding, stunting, and street racing in the province. Morgan said the legislation will come with increased penalties for those exceeding speed limits by 30 km/h, 50 km/h, and those doing twice the legal limit. The bill also allows police to immediately suspend drivers’ licences and impound the vehicles of those charged with excessive speeding, stunting, or racing. Morgan joins Gormley to share the details of the bill. Do you think this legislation goes too far, or does it simply address a real issue on our roads and highways?
