A 27-year-old man is facing new charges in connection with a crash in August that ultimately led to the death of a 48-year-old man.
The victim died Sunday of the injuries he suffered in the collision.
On Aug. 2 at about 9:50 p.m., a stolen vehicle travelling north hit another vehicle at the intersection of Dewdney Avenue and Elphinstone Street.
The driver of the stolen vehicle ran off. Two people from the other vehicle were taken to hospital, where one was listed in critical condition.
Police identified the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested Nov. 12 on another matter and was charged in connection with the crash as well.
Jeremy Ryan Lee Favel initially was charged with two counts of failure to stop after an accident that results in bodily harm, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failure to comply with a condition of a release order.
Police were informed Sunday the driver of the other vehicle had died, so one charge of failing to stop after an accident that results in bodily harm was changed to failure to stop after an accident that results in death. The dangerous driving charge also was amended to dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.
Favel is to appear on the charges Friday.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Favel was sentenced to 438 days in jail and handed a five-year driving prohibition on Jan. 23, 2023 after being found guilty on charges of dangerous driving causing death, failure to stop after an accident that results in bodily harm, and theft of a motor vehicle. Other charges against him were stayed.
