8:30 – A report prepared for the Canadian Medical Association says Canada experienced more than 4,000 “excess deaths” between August and December of 2020 not related to the COVID-19 pandemic, largely due to delayed and missed medical treatments and an increase in mental health and substance abuse disorders. CMA President Dr. Katherine Smart says the legacy of the pandemic will likely be felt for years to come, and work needs to start immediately to keep the medical backlog issues from becoming worse. Dr. Smart joins guest host Taylor MacPherson to tell us more about the report and what needs to happen for the situation to improve.
