Saskatchewan RCMP officers needed just 2 1/2 hours to pull over three impaired drivers in the Maidstone area.
On Friday, the Mounties said officers from the Maidstone detachment and the Roving Traffic Unit were doing a “Safer Roads, Safer Communities” enforcement blitz in the area.
Between Thursday at 11:30 p.m. and Friday at 2 a.m., officers stopped and charged three impaired drivers. Their vehicles were impounded for 30 days and their driver’s licences were suspended indefinitely.
One of the drivers had a carton of hard iced tea and empty cans in the passenger seat beside him.
“This initiative focused on ensuring the roads in the Maidstone area were safe for everyone travelling on them,” Cpl. Bryce Pender from the Roving Traffic Unit said in a media release.
“Despite constant messaging about the dangers of driving while impaired, these incidents show there are still people making poor choices that endanger not only themselves, but others around them. That’s why the Saskatchewan RCMP is committed to locating and removing these drivers from the road — just like we did last night.”
