The search of a house on the Canadian Forces base in Moose Jaw has resulted in weapons charges against a 32-year-old man who works with the Snowbirds.
In a media release Monday, the Saskatchewan RCMP said its Crime Reduction Team executed a search warrant Friday at a home at 15 Wing Moose Jaw with the help of the Moose Jaw RCMP, the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team and the Moose Jaw Police Service.
The search found gun parts and two over-capacity magazines.
Rhys Paradis was charged with manufacturing a restricted weapon, unlawful possession of a restricted firearm, unlawful possession of a prohibited device and unlicensed possession of a restricted firearm with readily accessible ammunition.
Paradis, who’s originally from Lennoxville, Que., is listed on the Snowbirds’ website as a corporal who works as a Lead Aircraft Structures Technician. His role with the team was confirmed in an email by Capt. Gabriel Ferris, the public affairs officer with the air demonstration team.
“We take the allegations seriously and will be following the judicial process closely and will see what is done when the process is over,” wrote Ferris, who declined to comment further.
Paradis is to appear in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Jan. 5.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Paradis pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a restricted firearm and unlawful possession of a prohibited device on June 21, 2022, and received 18 months probation, $200 in fines and a 10-year discretionary firearm prohibition. The other two charges were stayed.
