Much of southern Saskatchewan will remain under an extreme cold warning Wednesday evening.
Just before 3 p.m., Environment Canada extended its advisory for much of the province, saying a ridge of high pressure tracking through the region will keep temperatures low.
“Once again tonight, temperatures near -30 combined with winds up to 15 km/h will spread extreme cold wind chill values near -40 throughout much of southern Saskatchewan,” the warning said.
“As a system tracks towards the area, temperatures will start to moderate overnight, and these extreme cold warnings will be ended overnight and through the early hours of Thursday morning.”
Areas of northern Saskatchewan also were under an extreme cold warning Wednesday, with wind chills in that region to reach -45 C before the mercury starts rising Thursday.
