Temperatures conducive to outdoor winter events have been few and far between this winter season.
With a warm week in the forecast for Saskatchewan, friends and families may look to make up for some of that lost time being stuck inside.
Travel writer Ashlyn George has many unique insights on fun things to do this winter across the province and she shared some of them on Monday’s Greg Morgan Morning Show on 980 CJME.
“I love Beaver Creek,” George said with excitement.
You’ll come across many chickadees in the area, according to George.
“These little birds in this area are so used to getting treats and they will just fly around you as you’re walking just waiting to snag a treat right from the palm of your hand,” she said.
George said Cypress Hills is another spot that has its perks for the whole family.
“Not only do they have a downtown toboggan hill, but they have a mini luge track which is right next to the toboggan hill,” George said.
“This is curved so you kind of (get) to have a little more of an adventure going down the hill than just straight down and maybe hitting a jump or two.”
A snow maze located at Duck Mountain Provincial Park is quickly becoming one of the most popular spots to check out this winter.
“This is the second year they’ve done a snow maze,” George said. “They always get so much snow out in that corner of the province near the Manitoba border.”
The snow maze has a 3,600-square-foot structure.
Moose Mountain Provincial Park is another top spot for skiers, according to George.
“Every year they have this annual candlelight cross-country ski event,” she said. “The park staff will actually go out and they will light candles inside hundreds of paper bag lanterns.
“It lines the 1.6-kilometre riding academy trail so at nighttime, you get to ski in this glowing, lit-up forest. It’s a really neat skiing experience.”
The next one is planned for Feb. 18.
