The Saskatchewan Health Authority is following the provincial government’s lead when it comes to COVID-19 public health measures.
The Saskatchewan government said Tuesday the proof of vaccination/proof of a negative test requirement to get into businesses and other venues was to end Monday at 12:01 a.m.
On Friday, the SHA told its employees the need to have proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test also will end Monday for all staff members.
At the same time, the requirement will end for essential family/support people and visitors at Saskatchewan hospitals and long-term care homes.
Employees were told the proof of vaccination portal will be closed as of Monday and all vaccination information already submitted will be kept confidential.
As well, the SHA told employees the discipline process has been paused for staff members who didn’t provide evidence of compliance with the policy.
Vaccinated and unvaccinated staff members were still being encouraged to test twice a week to prevent transmission of the virus.
Also Monday, screeners at SHA facilities are to stop asking to see proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test from visitors. Temperature screening and other methods are to continue and all support people and visitors will have to wear a new medical-grade mask.
“(Removing the proof of vaccination rule) does not mean that the COVID-19 pandemic is over but indicates a necessary transition towards living with COVID,” the SHA said in a media release.
“Transmission of COVID-19 and its variants will continue to pose a risk throughout the province. Residents are encouraged to make their own personal risk assessment when accessing SHA facilities.”
