Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be for the coupled up, the pairs, the two halves of a whole.
If you don’t have the pea to your pod — and you’re happily single and independent — there’s a place for you in Saskatoon on Monday.
Chris Beavis is the general manager at the Hotel Senator where Winston’s Pub is located. For the past 15 years, the pub has been home to Saskatoon’s Anti-Valentine’s Day celebration.
“Since 2007, we’ve been running this event. It’s very popular,” Beavis said. “There’s a lot of independent and single people out there.
“For a holiday — a corporately created event — we decided to go on an anti- route. There’s a lot of single people (who) come out and have fun with the event.”
Beavis said the pub has even created a special menu and drinks for the event.
“We like to have some fun with it here,” he said. “Of course we’re kind of a party pub here at Winston’s, so we’ve got your ‘Treat Yo’ Self’ shot, which is a shot of tequila. We have a ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ cocktail and the ‘Single and Old…Fashioned,’ and the ‘Tears of My Ex’ gin cocktail.”
There are also “Just For Me” nachos and the “Rings of Regret” onion rings.
Beavis says it’s all in good fun — and no, there aren’t any dartboards where patrons can post pictures of their ex-amours.
“We don’t really have that available … maybe in the future,” he said with a chuckle.
If someone is still looking for that special someone, Beavis admitted there have been connections here and there.
“There’s always people that meet and greet at Winston’s,” he said. “I would definitely say through the years people have mingled and met.”
