For the second time in less than a month, the City of Regina has experienced a change in its senior leadership.
On Feb. 7, city council dismissed then-city manager Chris Holden. On Wednesday, the city issued a media release saying it and its executive director of city planning and community development, Diana Hawryluk, had “mutually agreed to part ways.”
“I have been honoured to work for the City of Regina for over 10 years with many accomplishments and awards from the great work of my team in city planning and community development,” Hawryluk said in the release. “I am grateful to all the staff and collaborative relationships I have been privileged to be part of over the years.
“As I transition to the next chapter of my career, I feel blessed to have worked with a great team that contributed to improving the lives of the residents of our city.”
Hawryluk started with the city in 2011 as its director of city planning. She took the job as permanent executive director in 2015.
According to the release, Hawryluk helped with the city’s Official Community Plan, negotiated the first Memorandum of Understanding with the Regina Airport Authority, and helped develop Regina’s Comprehensive Housing Strategy and the Community Safety and Well-being Plan.
“Over the last decade, Ms. Hawryluk has been a strong leader committed to the success of the city planning and community development division,” interim city manager Jim Nicol said in the release. “I wish her all the best into the future.”
Deborah Bryden, who had been serving as the director of assessment and property revenue services, will be the acting executive director until a permanent replacement for Hawryluk is hired. That’s expected to happen later this year after Holden’s successor is hired.
