Two people are facing charges after a hit-and-run in Regina on Saturday night.
Around midnight in the Douglas Park area, police observed what they’re calling a “suspicious vehicle” that did not have a licence plate.
The vehicle turned into a dead-end crescent and appeared as though it was going to park. Officers exited their police vehicle and were about to approach when the vehicle allegedly accelerated towards them.
When the police officers attempted to get back, the oncoming vehicle struck the driver’s door of the police vehicle, pinning one of the officer’s legs between the door and the frame.
The suspect’s vehicle hit two other parked vehicles before fleeing the area.
The officer whose leg had been pinned suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for examination.
Not long after the vehicle left the scene, it was located by members of the Stolen Auto Unit.
Covert surveillance was conducted and police were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices near Broad Street and Dewdney Avenue. A short time later, the vehicle came to a complete stop near the 500 block of Toronto Street in the northeast.
After roughly 40 minutes of negotiations, a 19-year-old man and 19-year-old woman exited their vehicle and were arrested.
Through investigation, it was determined the vehicle was stolen and the keys for the vehicle had been taken during a break-and-enter that took place in a garage on the early morning hours of Saturday.
The suspects were expected to make their first appearances in Provincial Court on Monday.
