The Saskatchewan government is spelling out its plans for repairing and renovating two schools in the province.
Projects at Kyle Composite School and Ecole St. Margaret School in Moose Jaw are to receive $4.5 million through the new Minor Capital Renewal Program, which was announced in the 2022-23 budget.
The program is designed to allow school divisions to address smaller capital projects that involve structural repairs, renovations and additions to schools.
Kyle Composite School was built in 1958 and currently has 71 students from kindergarten to Grade 12. Only a quarter of the school is being used. The school is to undergo structural repairs and downsizing that will help lower the operating cost for the Sun West School Division.
Ecole St. Margaret School, which was built in 1956, has 187 students from kindergarten through Grade 8. Only 60 per cent of the school currently is being used, so it too will be repaired and downsized.
School divisions are being invited to submit applications to the Ministry of Education for the 2023-24 Minor Capital Renewal Program.
