The RCMP says a Warman woman was pregnant when she was killed in a highway crash north of Saskatoon on Saturday.
The expectant mother and her passenger were northbound on Highway 12 when their Toyota 4Runner was struck by a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The woman died at the scene, but her passenger and the driver of the Jeep survived.
According to a release from the RCMP, an officer from the Warman detachment saw the Jeep driving erratically on the highway at 9:45 p.m.
The RCMP said the Jeep took off when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle. The officer continued in the direction the Jeep had gone, and later found it had collided with the 4Runner.
The Mounties said the Jeep was on the wrong side of the road at the time of the crash.
Sgt. Barry Thomas with the Martensville detachment said the teenage driver of the Jeep remained in the hospital Tuesday in “grave condition.”
Thomas added the Jeep belonged to a family member and was not stolen.
The investigation into the crash continues. According to Thomas, alcohol has not been ruled out.
