A 43-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a woman and set fire to the house she was in is facing multiple charges.
Regina police say officers got a call Sunday just before 8 a.m., about a man starting a house on fire in the 800 block of Rae Street.
When police arrived, they arrested the suspect and charged him with arson. Officers subsequently learned a woman who police allege had been assaulted several times was in the house at the time the fire was started.
The woman got out of the house before police arrived.
The man was charged with arson with disregard for human life, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm by choking, assault, possession of an identity document, and failure to comply with the condition of a release order.
He made his first court appearance on Monday.
