The Regina Police Service got an assist from the RCMP in tracking down the suspects in a pair of recent drugstore robberies in the city.
In a media release Thursday, the Regina police said three men were facing charges in connection with the robberies after previously being charged by the Mounties following an unrelated traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway near Morse on April 12.
That day, two drugstores — one in the 4600 block of Rae Street, the other in the 1600 block of Dewdney Avenue East — were robbed by three men who took off in a white Toyota Camry with an Alberta licence plate.
Later that afternoon, an RCMP officer stopped a white Camry that had been speeding on the Trans-Canada. A search of the vehicle found drugs and a loaded handgun.
“Communication between police agencies led to the realization the vehicle and (potentially) its occupants might be involved in the crimes just committed in Regina, which led to further investigation by RPS,” the police release said.
“The continued investigation by the Regina Police Service eventually led to new arrests and charges laid against the same three adult males.”
In addition to the list of charges against them laid after the traffic stop, the three men — two 22-year-olds and a 21-year-old — now face charges in Regina of robbery, theft under $5,000, wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, and mischief under $5,000.
They appeared in court Wednesday.
