Regina’s Mayfair Crescent is the big winner (?).
The street in south Regina was voted No. 1 in Saskatchewan in CAA’s annual Worst Roads campaign.
A stretch of Highway 4 near the village of Dorintosh was the defending, uh, champion.
Three Regina streets made the top 10, while Saskatoon had only one road — Circle Drive — crack the list.
Here’s the top 10:
- Mayfair Crescent, Regina
- Saskatchewan 47, Springside (which was No. 2 in the 2018 poll)
- Highway 9, Hudson Bay (No. 3 in 2021 and No. 5 in 2018)
- Saskatchewan 155, La Loche (No. 1 in 2017)
- Saskatchewan 5, Buchanan
- Circle Drive, Saskatoon
- Fourth Avenue Viaduct SW, Moose Jaw
- Grant Drive, Regina (No. 6 in 2021 and No. 8 in 2019)
- Ingersoll Crescent, Regina
- Ninth Avenue SW, Moose Jaw (No. 10 in 2018)
Voting took place from April 6 through Saturday.
Drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, runners, bus riders and motorcyclists were asked to nominate and vote for the worst, most unsafe highways, municipal or residential roads in the province.
The biggest complaints this year included potholes, unpaved roads, poor road maintenance, poor road signs or markings and traffic congestion.
According to CAA’s Cost of Poor Roads in Canada Study, the average Canadian driver pays an extra $126 per year in repair bills caused by bad roads. In Saskatchewan, the study found the average annual cost per driver is $97.
The organization said it would send the results of the poll to Saskatchewan government and business leaders “in hopes of sparking conversation and action.”
