Elementary school students have been working hard all week to make that special gift for Mom.
Some students like to make a custom handwritten letter, while others show off their artistic skills with a painting.
Nikol Kirken is in Grade 3 at Colette Bourgonje School; she went with a custom letter for her Mom this Mother’s Day.
“I drew my mom and her jeans, her black shoes, and her sweater that says ‘Hockey Mom,’ ” Kirken said.
“My favourite memory is when I went to my figure skating competition together with my Mom in Edmonton.”
Kirken says she has been beaming with excitement all week to finally give her Mom the card.
“She always drives me to figure skating, she always watches me and reminds me what to do,” Kirken said.
Parinaac Kakkar is in the first grade and decided on a beautiful painting of a flower for Mother’s Day.
Kakkar says she thinks the painting of the flower beats getting her Mom real flowers.
“It’s an art flower and we did it with pointillism and each dot has my love in it. Why we didn’t give her real flowers is because this one will never die,” Kakkar said.
Kakkar showed plenty of excitement and eagerness to deliver the painting to her Mother.
“My Mom is really fun and takes me to fun places. She takes me to fairs and she takes me shopping and she makes me a lot of food,” Kakkar said.
Kakkar says her mother taught her everything she knows about painting and it’s the one thing they each love to do together.
“My Mom is really good at painting,” Kakkar said.
