Two Regina men are facing a litany of weapons charges after a manoeuvre in a car that drew the attention of a nearby police officer.
According to a release from the Regina Police Service, a patrol supervisor was heading north on Elphinstone Street near Seventh Avenue on Tuesday at about 12:30 a.m., when a car that had been going east on Seventh “took a sharp turn north onto Argyle Street.”
The officer followed as the car made a number of sudden turns. A check of the licence plate showed it had been stolen.
Officers tried to stop the car on Albert Street, but it took off. More officers got involved and saw the car heading into Wascana Park.
“The vehicle was abandoned minutes later, with two individuals running away,” the release said. “Canine unit members located a loaded shotgun only a few feet from the car. The two suspects were tracked successfully by Canine Unit members and arrested near 13th Avenue and Pasqua Street.”
A 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old man are facing a number of weapons charges. One of the men also is charged with breaching probation.
They’re to appear in court Tuesday.
