Meadow Lake RCMP made a gruesome discovery over the weekend.
RCMP were called to an off-leash dog park where the body of a puppy had been found.
The dog was found with a wound to its head. Meadow Lake RCMP Sgt. Ryan How confirmed a machete was found close to the slain animal.
A volunteer with the Meadow Lake Humane Society told meadowlakeNOW that dead wildlife carcasses and garbage have been found in the park in recent months, as well as signs of vehicles being driven through the area.
How said the situation with the puppy was a new one for officers.
“I can say its not uncommon for our detachment to come across animals that aren’t cared for properly or are abused,” he said.
“However, this is unique and we have no reason to believe that this is anything more than an isolated incident right now.”
With the investigation ongoing, RCMP released few details about the dog’s breed or sex.
