A Saskatchewan distillery is bringing in some international hardware for its vodka.
Prince Albert-based Phantom Light Distillery won platinum for its vodka at the SIP Awards in California.
“It’s like the Stanley Cup of spirit awards,” said the distillery’s owner, Brendan Miller. “There were high fives and hugs all around. The phones have really not stopped ringing since from all over the place.
“It has been a real whirlwind.”
The distillery was notified it had won the award on May 11. The competition received more than 12,000 entries.
“Winning this platinum award just kind of gives us that global recognition that we’re playing with the big boys right out of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan,” Miller said.
“There were so many great names from around the world that got gold or double gold so for us to get platinum … it just can’t get any better than that.”
After receiving the award, Miller says the distillery plans on aiming for greater heights.
“We want a world-class product that is all natural,” he said. “It has been a long road. This means a lot to us.”
