Spring-like conditions took a back seat for April showers and snow Good Friday.
Environment Canada issued winter storm warnings and snowfall warnings for most of northern Saskatchewan Thursday that continued through Friday.
“This system is causing winter storm warnings and snowfall warnings all the way from pretty much the B.C. border due east through Ontario to James Bay,” Meteorologist Justin Shaer told 650 CKOM Friday.
In Saskatchewan, Shaer expects the Buffalo Narrows area will be hit hardest with up to 45 centimetres, about a foot and a half of snow in the forecast.
“The heaviest (snow) by all means will be today (Friday),” Shaer said. “Especially as you go north of the Battlefords.”
Saskatoon and Regina seem to miss the worst of the storm, but according to Shaer, will see a cool down in temperature and some rain.
“It’s a powerful system you’ve got colliding warm air and cold air so you get the mixed bag of thunderstorms to heavy snow,” he said.
The weather began affecting roads Friday morning with Highway Hotline reporting slippery roads with slush and winter driving conditions from Lloydminster northeast to the La Ronge area.
