An investigation is underway after a 37-year-old man died Thursday at the Regina Correctional Centre.
According to a media release from the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell.
Staff called EMS and started life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead just before 6 p.m.
The release didn’t identify the man or include a cause of death, other than to say it wasn’t related to COVID-19.
The RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are investigating the man’s death. The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety also will be doing an internal investigation.
The man’s next of kin have been notified.
