Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado touched down in Saskatchewan during Thursday’s storms.
The weather service said the twister was reported 30 kilometres north of Morse at approximately 5:40 p.m.
Morse is about 185 kilometres west of Regina.
“The Northern Tornadoes Project and Environment and Climate Change Canada have collaborated on this tornado confirmation and will continue to gather evidence to document the track and intensity of the tornado,” the weather service said in a release.
The tornado was given a preliminary rating of EF-0, the weakest rating on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
Wind speeds in an EF-0 tornado range from 90 kilometres per hour to 130 km/h.
Environment Canada said it’s looking for pictures or videos of the tornado or the damage it may have caused.
There were reports of a second tornado in the province Thursday. Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins said early Friday there also was talk of a twister near the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border, but that one hadn’t been confirmed.
