'Considering the circumstances ... this is best-case scenario,' Cole Cusitar said.
After a relatively quiet campaign, the Saskatchewan NDP is set to choose its new leader Sunday afternoon.
Ryan Meili announced he was stepping down as leader earlier this year after the NDP lost its Athabasca seat in a byelection. He will also be stepping down as the MLA for Saskatoon Meewasin.
There are only two names on the leadership ballot this time around: Regina MLA Carla Beck and Saskatoon lawyer Kaitlyn Harvey.
Both Beck and Harvey have garnered support from current MLAs, though a few more are on Beck’s side.
Either way the vote turns out, it will be a historic outcome for the Saskatchewan NDP as it will be the first time a woman has been elected to lead the party.
The convention is to begin at 1 p.m. in Regina.
