Make no mistake, the Toronto Blue Jays are in trouble in 2017.
I say that for two reasons. The team got off to its worst start in its 41 year history. Secondly, baseball is the toughest in pro sport in which to lock down a playoff spot.
This 2 and 10 start in 2017 has some fans pinning the blame on president Mark Shapiro and GM Ross Atkins.
That shouldn’t be the case. Many are complaining that Toronto can’t get on base. I didn’t hear those complaints last year or the year before when the Jays won with the long ball.
If anything, Shapiro and Atkins deserve credit for being loyal to a core group of players who were here, prior to their arrival in Toronto, from Cleveland. They even brought back fan favourite Jose Bautista after he tested free agency.
Risk for reward baseball has run its course. Now it looks as if Shapiro and Ross need to start putting their stamp on this team.
