One person is dead and a suspect has been located after an emergency alert in the town of Langham on Friday morning.
An emergency alert was issued at about 7:40 a.m., warning residents to stay inside and lock their doors.
A second alert message named Justin Heimbecker as the suspect, warned he was considered armed and dangerous, and confirmed a person was dead.
According to the Corman Park police, Heimbecker was located shortly before noon Friday, and there is no longer any threat to the public.
At 12:15 p.m., the Mounties issued a media release saying they were cancelling the alert and lifting the order requiring people in the Langham area to shelter in place.
Corman Park Police Chief Ron Chomyn confirmed to 650 CKOM that Heimbecker had been located. The local police service provided support to the RCMP, Chomyn said, but he could not share any more details about the incident.
According to an update from RCMP on Friday afternoon, a deceased male was found inside a home in Langham at around 11:40 a.m. The RCMP said the home “was on fire earlier in the day,” and the deceased person is believed to be Heimbecker.
“RCMP Major Crimes is in the early stages of this investigation and we cannot provide further details at this time,” the RCMP said.
Carol Epp, who lives in Langham, described what it was like sitting in her home while police searched the town.
“We’ve heard lots of sirens (and) there’s police going by, but that’s about it,” she said before Heimbecker was found.
