Third man facing first-degree murder charge in 2021 killing in Regina

Almost one year to the day that Jason Bird was killed in Regina, a third man has been charged with Bird’s murder.

Mursal Abukar Hagi of Edmonton was arrested Wednesday. The 32-year-old was charged with first-degree murder and made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Thursday.

Terrance Desnomie and Okimaw Russell Night-Fox also are facing first-degree murder charges in connection with Bird’s death.

On July 15, 2021, Regina police officers were dispatched just after 5 a.m., to the 800 block of Princess Street. There, they found an injured man who later was identified as Bird.

Paramedics took him to hospital, where he later died.

Bird was Regina’s eight murder victim of 2021.
