Motorcycle gang members among those arrested in Regina drug busts

Raids by the Regina Police Service’s drug and gang units led in recent weeks to significant seizures as well as charges against multiple people, including members of two Regina motorcycle gangs.

According to police, the raids targeted individuals who were involved in high-level drug trafficking in the city.

On June 23, members of the drug unit and other police organizations conducted five searches.

Officers found and seized 10 kilograms of cocaine, six kilograms of methamphetamine, $155,000 in cash and other proceeds of crime, including motorcycles.

Three men — 38-year-old Michael Peter Gilewicz, 47-year-old Ryan Charles Quick and 44-year-old Trevor Shaun Dietz, all of Regina — were charged.

Dietz is a member of the Silent Soldiers outlaw motorcycle gang; he’s wanted in relation to the investigation.

The other two men aren’t part of the biker gang.

Anyone with information about Dietz’s whereabouts is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500, their local law enforcement agency, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Then, between June 23 and July 7, police executed nine search warrants at a number of addresses in the city, including the Rock Machine outlaw motorcycle gang’s clubhouse.

Six people were arrested. Three — 30-year-old Ian Bruce Simpson, 35-year-old Kelly Ryan Powell and 31-year-old Darwin Mogenson, all of Regina — are members of the Rock Machine gang.

Simpson and Powell also are facing charges of committing an indictable offence “for the benefit of, at the direction of, or in association with, a criminal organization.”

Police seized $12,700 in cash, seven guns and ammunition, 320 grams of cocaine, 19 grams of methamphetamine, six motorcycles, five vehicles, one skid steer, multiple cellphones, and evidence supporting vehicle thefts.

Simpson, Powell and Mogenson have made their first court appearances.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Quick pleaded guilty on Oct. 18, 2022 to two charges and was given a conditional sentence of 15 months. Mogenson pleaded guilty on Oct. 27, 2022 to two charges and was sentenced to 66 months in prison. Simpson was sentenced to three years in prison on Nov. 8, 2022. Powell was sentenced to one year in jail on one count on Dec. 19, 2022.

It has since been learned from other court documents that Mr. Powell received a sentence of close to four years on other charges as well, not simply the one year as previously reported.
