Heat warnings blanketed northern Saskatchewan and parts of the southwest on Friday, and Environment Canada predicted warnings would spread in the coming days.
The warnings stretched northward from the areas around Meadow Lake, Prince Albert National Park and Creighton. In the south, the warnings were in effect for the areas around Leader, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Maple Creek and Cypress Hills.
The advisory from Environment Canada said daytime highs in the low to mid-30s C and overnight lows near 15 C were in the forecast.
“These extreme heat values are expected to persist through the weekend,” the advisory for the southwest said. “A system forecast to move through the region on Tuesday will moderate temperatures and bring an end to the heat warning.
“These heat warnings will likely spread eastward through the coming days.”
