A 29-year-old woman is off to prison in connection with Regina’s first murder of 2020.
Kelly Renee Stonechild initially was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Keesha Cree Bitternose. Stonechild pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter in Regina Provincial Court on Wednesday and was sentenced to seven years in custody.
With credit for time on remand, she’s to spend 1,725 days behind bars. She also was handed a lifetime firearms ban.
Bitternose, a mother of four, was found dead in a house in the 1500 block of Cameron Street on Jan. 5, 2020. Stonechild was arrested just over a month later.
Two men also were charged with first-degree murder in Bitternose’s death.
Kurtis Thomas pleaded guilty in November to a charge of manslaughter and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Another man is to stand trial on the first-degree murder charge later in September.
