Three people have been charged in connection with an emergency alert issued last Tuesday after shots were fired in the Lloydminster area.
A 24-year-old woman from Onion Lake, a 19-year-old woman from the Poundmaker Cree Nation and a 15-year-old male from North Battleford are each charged with one count of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, one count of flight from a peace officer, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
On Tuesday at about 2:45 a.m., the Lloydminster RCMP got a report of shots being fired at a house in Lloydminster. Police determined a black, newer-model Ford Mustang was involved and passed on that information to nearby RCMP detachments.
At 3:49 a.m., the Maidstone RCMP received a report of shots fired at a house in the RM of Britannia. Police were told a black Mustang had approached the house before a few people got out of the car and started checking vehicles parked in the driveway.
“The homeowner came to the door and a firearm was discharged toward the homeowner,” the RCMP said in a media release. “The bullets struck the house and the occupants were not physically injured.”
At 4:08 a.m., the Maidstone RCMP were told that people in a black Mustang had tried to steal gas from a residence in the RM of Britannia.
At around 7 a.m., the Saskatchewan RCMP issued an emergency alert telling the public of the incidents.
The Mounties then got a call saying the car had been seen leaving Lloydminster and heading towards the Onion Lake Cree Nation. After a search, the car was found and disabled using a spike belt.
The occupants ran from the car, but two were found and arrested in a nearby camper. A third was arrested in a forested area close to where the car was disabled.
Later that evening, two other women were arrested.
Two of the five people were released without charges.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call their nearest RCMP detachment at 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
