A 19-year-old Regina man is facing a charge of sexual assault after an attack at dusk in Wascana Park.
According to police, a 33-year-old woman was running in the park near Broadway Avenue on Friday at about 7:15 p.m., when a man rode up on a scooter and tackled her.
Police say the man covered the victim’s mouth, pulled her into the bushes, and sexually assaulted her.
“When the victim screamed for help, passersby were alerted and confronted the assailant, who then gave up the attack,” the police said in a media release. “Police were called and the male was arrested, and taken into custody where he was charged.”
Noah Smith, 19, was charged with sexual assault by choking, suffocating or strangling. He made his first court appearance Monday morning.
