There’s going to be lots of smoke and a lot of “injured” people at the Regina airport on Tuesday morning.
Between 8 a.m. and noon, the Regina Airport Authority and airport partners are to host a full-scale emergency exercise to test the emergency response plans and capabilities of the airport and first responders.
The exercise will simulate an aircraft accident near the main runway. Transport Canada requires internationally designated Canadian airports to test their emergency response plan every two years with a full-scale exercise.
“There may be large plumes of smoke appearing in the direction of airport during this time,” the airport authority said in a media release Monday.
“On site at the airport, there may be actors in makeup appearing to be in distress and an additional presence of emergency responders. This is all part of the controlled emergency exercise that has been planned.”
Fire and police will be on hand along with officials from other organizations.
