A 60-year-old Regina man is facing a charge of aggravated assault after an incident that police say involved a gardening implement.
According to Regina police, officers responded Tuesday at about 6:50 p.m., to the 1700 block of Ottawa Street for a report of a man who was unconscious after an assault.
“The events leading up to the assault are still unclear, but preliminary information indicates an adult male suspect allegedly punched the 61-year-old victim in the head and body, then struck him numerous times with a gardening tool before walking away,” police said in a release.
Police didn’t say what kind of gardening implement was involved.
The suspect was arrested nearby. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries that police described as serious.
The 60-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation. He made his first court appearance Wednesday.
