Saskatoon police are looking for a pair of suspected car thieves after a high-speed chase early Monday morning.
Police reported that a patrol car with two officers inside was nearly hit by a vehicle that blew through a stop sign at Forrester Road and Fairmont Drive just before 5:30 a.m. .
The officers attempted to stop the car, but it reportedly sped off, eventually heading east in the westbound lanes of Fairlight Drive.
From there, police said the car turned off onto 22nd Street, continuing to speed eastbound.
Safety concerns prompted police to back off around 22nd Street and Witney Avenue.
Officers reported the car continued east, eventually veering into the westbound lanes of 22nd Street before striking a power pole in an attempt to turn northbound at the intersection of 22nd Street and Avenue T.
The car reportedly came to rest near 23rd Street, at which point two suspects got out and fled.
Police called in a canine unit, but were unable to track down the pair.
Officers later discovered a replica handgun and a mask during a search of the car, which was reported stolen later Monday morning, apparently following a break-in at a home.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to call Saskatoon police at 306-975-8300, or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
