An alleged drunk driver was stopped by a Regina police vehicle early Saturday — because he drove into it.
Police said in a release Monday that officers saw a car driving erratically and without headlights on Dewdney Avenue on Saturday at about 1:45 a.m.
“During this time, police were slowly approaching Lorne Street which, due to nightclub activity, had multiple pedestrians, cabs and other vehicles on the road at this time,” the release said.
“Police were concerned about the erratic behaviour of the vehicle behind them as it approached the active street and decided to initiate a traffic stop. Police were yet unable to move, and the vehicle struck the police car from behind.”
Police got out of their vehicle and determined the occupants of the car weren’t injured. The driver was arrested and subsequent breath samples revealed his blood-alcohol level was in excess of .08.
The 22-year-old man was released from custody and is to appear in Provincial Court on Nov. 2.
