The Weyburn Police Service arrested a youth early Friday morning after being called to the scene of an alleged assault.
“Early Friday morning, officers responded to an urgent call involving an adult female that had sustained serious injuries as a result of an assault,” explained Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype.
He said the woman had to be taken by STARS air ambulance to Regina for her life-threatening injuries after she reportedly was stabbed.
“The last we heard, she was in stable condition, which is very fortunate,” he said.
The youth is currently in custody and has been charged with attempted murder, as well as two counts of uttering threats.
VanDeSype said police commend the quick response of the individuals who called 911.
“A couple of members of the household were able to run across two neighbours, and the neighbours responded,” he said. “If it weren’t for the quick action of family members and neighbours, the outcome could have been far more tragic.”
The youth and the victim are known to each other.
