Dates have been set for a public inquest into the death of an inmate at the Regina Provincial Correctional Centre in July of 2020.
The inquest is to be held Dec. 5-9 at the Holiday Inn and Suites at 1800 Prince of Wales Dr. in Regina.
Kalin Holonics , 25, was found unresponsive in his cell at the jail on July 9, 2020. Efforts to resuscitate Holonics were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.
The province’s chief coroner holds an inquest into the death of every person who dies while in custody at a jail or correctional facility unless the coroner is satisfied the person’s death was due to natural causes and couldn’t have been prevented.
“The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths,” a media release said. “The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death. The coroner’s jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.”
