The RCMP said Friday its investigation of Wednesday’s murder at a Melville motel has yet to identify suspects or come up with their descriptions.
In a media release, the Mounties said they don’t know who killed 26-year-old Tristan William Hughes-Nyszczuk, who was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Country Inn. Another man suffered life-threatening injuries in the shooting.
“The suspect(s) involved in this incident have not been located and no arrests have been made,” the RCMP said in the release. “Police do not have further information regarding the suspect(s) — including physical descriptions, images or identities.”
The RCMP previously said the first report of shots being fired at the motel came in at around 9:20 a.m., and police responded to the area immediately.
A dangerous person alert was issued just after 10:30 a.m., after a pickup truck that had been identified as being involved in the murder was found abandoned and burned on Highway 10 near Duff.
“At that point in the investigation, police had no information about where the suspect(s) might be, whether they had access to a vehicle, or if they would seek a ride from the many motorists who travel along that highway,” said the release issued Friday.
The police investigation determined the shooting of Hughes-Nyszczuk was a targeted attack. As a result, the alert was cancelled just after 1:30 p.m., because police said there wasn’t a risk to the general public.
In Friday’s release, the Mounties said an autopsy had confirmed the identity of Hughes-Nyszczuk, who was from Sherwood Park, Alta. The RCMP didn’t release the name of the other victim or his condition.
Anyone with information about the murder or the events leading up to it was asked to call their local police. Information also can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
